This is it. THE RESTLESS: Gallery installation, performance & published book as multiple explorations of endings (losses and gains, finality and transformation, and ultimately death). “This is it” acts as proclamation of a last stand as well as outward yet awkward declaration of youthful creative completion and presentation.
In its opening phase, a rotating meteoric sculpture acts as centerpiece and houses multiple perched, taxidermy pigeons. A live pigeon also occupies the gallery space. In the background behind a large photomural of outer space, the illusion to a club-like doorway with a queue of people emits a low bass-driven dance pulse. A video in the front of the gallery tells the story of a stranger coming to terms with existential heartache.
In its closing phase, a performer stands in lieu of the gallery's former meteoric sculptural centerpiece. The performer creates sounds with voice and electronically altered taxidermied pigeon and reacts to sounds made by unseen live musicians, all while interpreting existential heartache via Sam Cooke lyrics. |
